The Riders Residential Home and the UK Coronavirus Outbreak
The health, safety, and wellbeing of our residents, patients and staff is always our top priority and we are continuing with our robust and comprehensive response to coronavirus.
We are delighted to offer a range of visiting options and have invited those offering live entertainment and activities back into our services. Our plans are kept under regular review and are updated as and when advised by the public health authorities.
At The Riders we are welcoming new patients and residents, please contact our nursing residential home if you are searching for care providers or for any information.
At the Riders we adhere to the governments Covid guidelines, ensuring the safety of our residents and staff. Therefore, when we admit new residents and patients, we have clear protocols in place to ensure that it is appropriate for them to move in.
We’re delighted our residents and staff have been prioritised to receive the COVID-19 vaccination and the large majority have already had both of their vaccination doses. We’re making our homes as safe as possible and will do everything we can to ensure that all new residents, patients, and staff are vaccinated before moving in or working in our homes and hospitals. Even with the vaccination in place, we still adhere to our weekly covid test to all our staff, residents, and patients. All our new patients and residents also get tested before moving in, ensuring that we have their negative covid result well in advance.
To reassure you, this page details the latest guidance from The Riders about the protocols that we have implemented. This information is intended for The Riders residents, patients, staff and any visitors to our homes and hospitals.
For comprehensive information about the coronavirus itself, please visit either the Public Health England, Public Health Wales, Health Protection Scotland, or Public Health Jersey.
Guidance for visiting The Riders Nursing and Residential home
If you are required to make an essential visit to the Riders residential home it is important that you do so safely and in a way that minimises the risk of infection to our residents, patients, and staff. Therefore, we ask all our visitors to comply with the protocols listed below when visiting our sites:
Do not visit if you are currently self-isolating, have tested positive or experienced symptoms of Covid-19 in the past 14 day.
Hand washing - It is important that you wash your hands thoroughly before you visit the care home or hospital, and on arrival as well as regularly if you enter the home or hospital. Please make sure you wash your hands for a minimum or 20 seconds, using either hot water and soap or 60% alcohol sanitiser gel. The NHS has a video guide to effective handwashing, which you can see here.
For visits indoors when appropriate we may provide you with personal protection equipment (PPE) that must be always worn. In addition, a staff member may escort you to the relevant area and back again.
Upon Arrival at The Riders
We are pleased to say that our home in Maidenhead welcome visitors in accordance with the latest government guidelines. Whilst government guidance is slightly different across different countries, we are committed to providing a range of visiting options both indoors and outdoors and there are no longer any restrictions on who may visit indoors.
At The Riders we ensure that a covid test is done before entry, which gives our visitors a small list of guidelines to follow whilst inside. Visitors have the flexibility to take covid test at home however, we request that all our visitors attend 30 minutes early to their visiting appointments, allowing us to check their covid status.
Upon entry all our visitors get their temperature checked and ensure that their facemasks are always worn, whilst social distance is always kept as much as possible. Although our preference is that there are no more than two visitors per resident at any given time, there are exceptions, however we require notification in advance to gives us time determine if the request is achievable in accordance with the government regulations. The same rules apply for when it comes to special occasions as we are a happy and are delighted that events and dining may be possible for a larger group of individuals visiting The Riders, we still require visitors to book appointments in advance.
So, if you’d like to book a special lunch or tea party for a celebration, contact us and we will do whatever we can to support.
Bookings can be done online through our website (Contact us section) and if there are any issues or for those who need additional help, please email us, or call us and we’re happy to assist.

For those who wish to have day outs with their loved ones, they can do so and again we will need to be made aware of this in time prepare for preparation purposes. With our support we ensure that testing and risk assessments are completed before we can let our residents leave.
Our resident’s safety is very important to us and with the help of the government guidance we follow our protocols strictly to ensure that our residents are safe and enjoy their time whilst out with their loved ones.
If you are unclear, please do speak to the Home Manager who will be happy to explain the situation to you.
Please note that, as always, visiting must be signed off by the local director of public health or local health protection team and as such, can be paused at short notice if necessary. This may result in visits being cancelled at short notice, but rest assured we will do our best to give as much notice as possible.
Vaccinations
We are so grateful for the vaccination programme that is allowing us all to socialise and see loved ones a little more. We are delighted that most of our residents and patients have been vaccinated where possible. With the updated government guidance all our staff had their first jab of the vaccination, and we continue to support them to ensure that they have second vaccination as we know how important that is both to developing the best immunity as well as longevity of that immunity, and the engagement with staff at The Riders.
As we have previously said, we feel very strongly that to give our residents the most protection we are making sure that our staff are vaccinated, where possible, and we continue to do everything we can to make that happen.
We are also requesting that all our new residents and patients be vaccinated or be willing to be vaccinated before moving in.
We want to make sure that The Riders is always safe for all our residents and staff.
